Why, Back When I was a CSK Driver...
CSK drivers use white trucks. What a shock from comfortable orange pumpkins. I'm now driving albino pumpkins.
As of March 6, 2005, CSK stopped being a SNI account. On that date, the account goes to Penske Logistics. Some drivers went back to system, some to TruckRail, and some changed over and went to work for Penske.
For 14 months, I was a driver on the CSK account, based in Phoenix. I started out as a Utility driver and then moved up to my own route. And then I broke me leg and had to start all over as a utility driver when I came back to work. A few weeks after I picked up my own route again, I was offered the position at Reckitt Benckiser as a yard driver. October 15, 2004 was my last day at CSK.
- 08/25/03 - Surprise! Last week I called the Training Engineer I rode with and he suggested I call the
desk jockey on the account he runs on. I did and today is my first day as a Dedicated Account driver.
No more running from state to state. I am based in Phoenix and will run local with the occasional trip
out of the area. The account is CSK Auto, Inc. We deliver autoparts to the Checker Auto stores in
the southwestern US area.
- 10/11/03 - Just came home from a week teaming with another driver. His co-driver went on vacation and
I filled in for her. We made three runs to Clearfield, UT and two runs to Commerce, CA in 5 1/2 days. Whew.
It's definately fall up in Utah. The trees are turning pretty colors and the leaves are starting to drop.
Soon there will be snow, and I am not looking forward to it at all.
- 10/16/03 - I'm on my own route now. It's a lot of in-town store deliveries and one trip to Flagstaff. No more Utility driver shuttling trailers around town or filling in for vacationing drivers. I just wish the warehouse would load the product better so that it doesn't fall over in the trailer the minute they roll the door down and seal it closed.
- 12/10/03 - Bad News! On the 3rd, I fell off a powered pallet jack and broke my left leg.
I spent 5 days in the hospital and had some significant surgery on my left leg. It's totally hammered
just below the knee. Oh the pain! The doctor says it will take 6 months to heal up, and maybe longer.
- 02/18/04 - Well, I go in for my 3 month doctor's visit in a couple of weeks. Hopefully I
can get the brace off my leg soon and start back to work in the office, or something! I'm getting
weak and dim-witted (more so than normal) sitting at home. They're probably going to have to retrain
me on how to drive a truck, or something. It's been forever since I've even looked at a SNI/CSK truck
up close. I miss my truck!
- 04/29/04 - Great News! I have been released back to regular duty effective May 1st. Now I can relearn everything I've forgotten in the past 5 months. I am so happy!!!!
- 05/06/04 - Just returned from remedial training in Fontana. I'm back in the saddle again! I'm working as a Utility Driver at the moment, but I'm watching the board to see if any routes come available. However, due to my injury and the amount of time lost, I'm back to the bottom of the seniority list for the account.
- 05/16/04 - Just returned from a team run to Denver and back. Damn, that's a long trip up there. Cold up there, too. No snow on the roads, thank goodness.
- 05/24/04 - I'm on my new route. I deliver to stores in the Phoenix/Chandler/Mesa area and one trip to Prescott and one to Tucson.
- 06/12/04 - Switched my Friday run to Tucson with a Friday run to Cottonwood. It leaves early in the morning and I'm home in the mid afternoon.

- 08/09/04 - I am now running in a KW. Nice truck. I had been in a International, but this is heaven compared to that one.
- 10/04/04 - Offered position at Reckitt Benckiser as Yard Goat driver. Start training on 10/18.
- 10/15/04 - Last day on CSK Account. Trained my replacement this past week. He should do great!
Monday I start at Reckitt.
